Mission Training Center

Elder DeeJay Poorman was only in the MTC for 10 days. Since he was serving an English Speaking mission they teach you what you need to know and then you are sent to the field to teach the Lord's children. A few things  DeeJay mentioned about the MTC were that he didn't like the food much and he was pretty homesick. The showers were either scorching hot or ice cold. He was the district leader over 4 Elders and 6 Sister missionairies. His companions name was Elder Willingham. He was 18 years old and from Orange County, California. DeeJay was glad his stay at the MTC was short. He didn't seem to like it much.

Going to the MTC

We decided that it would be best for us to drive down the night before DeeJay had to be at the MTC so we could relax the next morning and enjoy our last few hours that we were able to spend together. We left Turesday the 19, 2013 in the afternoon. We ate at Tucanos that night for dinner and it was pretty good. The next morning we were all dreading the next few hours but we tried to keep it happy. We had breakfast at our hotel and after getting ready we drove around and then decided to have lunch at Golden Corral. It was yummy and there were a few other missionairies and their families there as well. DeeJay had to be at the MTC at 1:15 pm. After lunch we drove to the Provo temple to park and take some pictures before we said goodbye. That was the hardest thing ever! We were all crying. One of the hardest things was to think that when DeeJay comes home Eden will just barely be 2, Kyson will be 3 and Paige wil be 5!! They will change so much while he is gone. Even though we miss DeeJay so much we know he is serving the Lord and he is where he needs to be. We are incredibly proud of his decision to serve a mission and we know he will do a great job!

Mission Farewell March 17, 2013

The turn out for the farewell was really great! Deejay did such a good job! We were all so proud of him. He had a lot of freinds and family that came to support him. After sacrament meeting his friends and family were invited over to Grandma and Grandpa Stears' house for cookies and to mingle. It was great seeing everyone. Even though it was hard for Deejay to say goodbye to so many people he was so thankful for the support that they gave him!
